This concert brings together two well-known NZ musicians with an Australian string quartet. The artists are Elizabeth Sellars (violin), Wilma Smith (violin), Helen Ireland (viola), Zoe Knighton (cello) – who make up the Flinders Quartet – and Michael Houstoun (piano) who joins them to form a piano quintet. Familiar Beethoven and Dvořák works bookend an Australian work that was inspired by Matthew Flinders’ aboriginal comrade Bungaree, in his circumnavigation of Australia.
